BOAT SHOW ROUND-UPNEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2010 |
||
This month, the team here at Multihull World have been very busy with many and varied activities surrounding the Southampton Boat Show and beyond. Read on to find out more..... Southampton Boat ShowIt was great to see so many of you over the course of the Southampton Show, which ran 10th-19th September. Our intention this year was to make a splash, and we had invested a lot of time and energy making our presence at this year’s show bigger and better than ever. On the water the star of the show was no doubt the newly re-modelled Broadblue 435 series2. The launch for this flagship of the Broadblue range took place on the opening Press Day of the boatshow, and Broadblue MD Mark Elliott (below left) said: “The launch of this latest Broadblue Catamaran, the 435S2, allows us to clearly show the the benefits of a boat designed with sailing owners in mind rather than designed for charter"
Multihull World MD Mark Jarvis (above right) is and always has been keen to demonstrate these are true sailing boats, not floating apartments, and so throughout the show he could be seen skippering the Broadblue Voyager 345 in and out of the Show Marina on hourly test sails in the ‘Try-A-Boat’ area of the show. As usual, the smallest Broadblue held her own under sail, and regularly out-paced some of the other monohull participants upwind proving that her easy-to-handle sailplan and Darren Newton designed hulls really are a winning combination.
Over on the brokerage stand, our new position on the PSP Walkway overlooking the Show Marina(pic above), along with the fantastic range of multihulls currently on brokerage drew in the crowds. Brokerage manager Rebecca was tremendously pleased with the response from visitors to the stand, with many more people seeming to be aware and interested in multihulls, either as their current boat or as a long-term plan for the future. We even had a visit from a dog searching for a Cat...

Emsworth Multihull ShowIn tandem with our efforts at Southampton, as usual we also had our Used Multihull Show at Emsworth. This year there was a good selection – from a 46’ Fountaine Pajot right down to a couple of Hirondelles, and near enough everything in between. We took offers on several boats during the course of the week, and with a number of those boats still on-site there is still time to get down to Emsworth to view a selection of pre-owned multihulls before it’s too late! Format 400 Cabrio at La Grand Pavois, La Rochelle
As reported in last month’s newsletter Mike and Lesley from Multihull World presented the Format 400 Cabrio at this year’s La Grand Pavois. Editorial staff of specialist magazine ‘Multihulls World’ were very impressed by the Format, as were many other visitors to the show, voicing the opinion that for Mediterranean sailing she is a fantastic prospect. Following the show, both Multihulls World and Voiles Magazine put the Format through her paces on test sails, and we’ll see the results over the coming months. Mike Davis commented: “Visitors to the French shows recognised the concept right away and told us what a perfect boat it was for the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, or coastal cruising with a young family who reveled in fresh air. Or equally for around the world cruising because of its simplicity and speed. It was great to bring something new and fresh to a well-established market, and out of 35 or so catamarans represented to have the Cabrio singled out as favourite by so many visitors.” If you’ve missed the Cabrio at any of our UK demo-days this year then why not drop us a line to book a viewing and/or test sail? Another of our new boat range which received some attention at the Southampton Boat Show was the new Strider 25R. This fast, fun, affordable (just £19,950 for a new boat!!) cat has attracted a lot of attention, and we are delighted to have just agreed a contract to build boat no.2 for a client. Look out for info about the build and development in future newsletters. To arrange a viewing or test sail of our demo vessel please email: Rebecca@multihullworld.co.uk |
Seek and Ye Shall Find...At Multihull World, because of our many years experience in selling catamarans, we can offer a tailor made service on a one to one basis to our clients. Just over 2 years ago we talked to a client at a boat show regarding his plan to purchase a blue water cruising catamaran for a world trip. He was happy to do a lot of the searching himself but wanted us to act in an advisory capacity. 2 years later he contacted us and mentioned that he had two viewings already scheduled on catamarans abroad that he had arranged himself. However, he was disappointed in the condition of the vessels and wondered where to go next. We knew his requirements so suggested a different design of catamaran – a Catana in fact – and made arrangements for viewing having checked out the condition beforehand (no nasty surprises this time!). After the viewings, he wanted to go ahead with the purchase of one of them and we gave advice on what was a realistic price to offer bearing in mind the age and equipment on the vessel. We then arranged survey, insurance and checked through leasing documents and translated previous paperwork. Finally, we visited the boat with him for the hand over and test sail and checked all the boat systems and inventory. The boat is lovely and really suits his plans. A very happy client! If you would like the same “hand-holding” service, then get in touch. It can save a lot of wasted trips abroad and achieve a better buying price. Email: mike@multihullworld.co.uk .
